How to Order/Buy Parts and Materials
You can either order parts from an on-line vendor, or purchase parts/materials from You can either order parts from an on-line vendor, or purchase parts/materials from nearby suppliers.
To order from an on-line vendor: One person in your Final Project group should send John an
email (from your caltech.edu email address) with the following information:
- Your name, your group name, and group members
- The website you're buying from (McMaster, for most of you)
- The part number (and it helps to have a brief description)
- The quantities of each
- Any additional information needed, such as the length of a part that needs to be cut to size
To get reimbursed for purchases from local suppliers: If you buy parts or materials from a nearby supplier
(e.g., Home Depot, Hobby People, Orchard Supply, Industrial Pipe and Supply), save your receipts. Bring your receipts
to Maria Koeper (mkoeper@caltech.edu, 626-395-3385, Keck 207). She will reimburse you using the "petty cash" process.
This means you will get cash back for your receipt, generally within a few days. Note, your combined on-line purchases
and receipt reimbursements cannot exceed the Final Project budget of $45 per person.
